After some expeditious use of a little shoe leather and a few hours on the web, it all started to fall into place. There was more to this case than we thought initially. We were able to put some of the pieces together and found out the following facts about the FO Sites.

Their Purpose

The Free Offer sites on the internet are used by online marketers for promoting the products of their clients. If you can gauge the popularity of these sites by how many of them exist, they must be fairly well accepted by internet bargain seekers. The only thing is, not all of these sites may present actual bargains. But, have no fear, Free Offer Detective is here!

Any given FO site could show upwards of 150 different ads from businesses that pay the marketer a fee any time someone clicks on their particular ad banner. The free item being given away ($1000 gift card, laptop computer, etc.) is an incentive the marketer uses to attract you to his FO site. This incentive item will have a well known brand name that helps in the attraction, even though the brand name company will have no knowledge of how their item is being used.

Our Purpose

Free Offer Detective is here to sample FO sites for you. Then, we’ll review a number of the sites to find out how much those free offers actually cost. (Wait. We didn’t just shock you with that revelation, did we?) Even if you were to select ONLY offers that required no monetary input (quite difficult), there would still be a time cost to provide, at minimum, your e-mail address. (Insert here all of the old “opportunity cost” clichés: “no such thing as a free lunch,” “only the air is free,” etc.)

If you think that these high-dollar incentive items are really free, we’d hate to have to bear the tidings about Santa Claus…but that’s another story for another time.
